Description
Australasian Grebe on Nest. The Australasian Grebe is a small waterbird. It can be seen in fresh water wetlands throughout Australia. It is a very shy bird though, often disappearing under water when alarmed. The Australasian Grebe builds its nest floating on the water. In breeding plumage its head goes from grey-brown to glossy black and a chestnut stripe appears from behind the eye through to the base of the neck. The pale spot at the base of its bill becomes more yellow. Taken in south-east Queensland, Australia.
