Description
Brolgas in the Landscape.
Three Brolgas in the beautiful wetlands environment, mountains in the background, water with lily pads and reeds in the foreground. The Brolgas are in the marsh area. One of the birds is in search of food, the second one is stretching its wings and the third one is preening its feathers. They form an interesting feature in this beautiful landscape.
The Brolga is one of two Australian Crane species and looks very similar to the Sarus Crane. Both are predominantly grey in colour. The Brolga can be distinguished by the red colouring, which is confined to its head. In the Sarus Crane the red colour extends down the neck as well. Furthermore the Brolga has a heavier dewlap. The Brolga is more widespread as well, covering almost half of Australia (the northern and eastern parts), the Sarus Crane is confined to areas in the far north only. Taken in north Queensland, Australia.
