Description
Close-up of the flower of a Banksia Oblongfolia. Banksia can grow as shrubs or trees and due to the characteristic flower spikes and the 'cones' that are left after the flowers have withered they are a popular sight. This coastal Banksia species grows along the East coast of Australia and flowers in winter. The flowers, when fully opened, produce a lot of nectar which attracts a plethora of Honey Eaters, insects and small mammals such as gliders, possums and bats. Taken in South East Queensland, Australia.
