Common Bluetail Damselfly
The Common Bluetail may be a common damselfly, but that doesn't take away from its dazzling beauty. The iridescent blue colour is simply stunning. It has this small damselfly noticed! You can find them Australia-wide. The larvae inhibit still or slow-running water and the adults fly roughly between October and March. The Bluetail in this image is perched on the leaves of a Wattle and it's probably a male. Males are black with blue eyes, thorax and tail. Females can vary in shades of green, brown and black, but sometimes they can look a lot like the males.
Taken in south-east Queensland, Australia.
