The Emu is Australia’s tallest bird. It can reach up to 1.90m! That makes them the second tallest bird in the world, after the Ostrich! The Emu is a flightless bird, its body is covered in greatly reduced shaggy grey-brown feathers. The neck and head are mostly naked and bluish-black in colour. With their long and powerful legs they can run at considerable speed, up to 50km/h! Emus inhabit open woodland and plains throughout Australia (except Tasmania). They are common in unsettled areas, in other words mostly seen in the outback. Emus are omnivores: they eat fruits, seeds, bark, nuts, growing shoots of plants, insects, small reptiles, small amphibians, and even animal droppings! Spotted on the side of an outback road in South East Queensland, Australia.
