Silver Gulls are the most common Gulls in Australia and can be found mainly near coastal areas. They have a white head and breast and a silver or grey back. The beak and legs are increasingly red in colour as the bird ages. They feed on worms, fish, insects and crustaceans but are also successful scavengers. This brings them in regular close contact with humans when they are looking for food scraps.
Don't confuse the species with Larus Argentatus, the Herring Gull, which is called Silver Gull in many other languages. This Gull is much larger and lives in a completely different range.
