Description
I’ve got an Ant on my Head!
I wonder if this big Lace Monitor is aware of its little companion! The Lace Monitor is a very large and powerful lizard. It can grow up to 2m long! These lizards are native to eastern Australia. They live in forests and woodlands and are an arboreal species. At the slightest disturbance they will climb a tree to be out of reach of the danger.
Lace Monitors are carnivorous and will eat anything that they can overpower, they will also eat eggs and scavenge for rotting meat. They have a large, forked tongue that they use in a similar way that snakes use theirs: searching for the scent of prey in the air.
Their colouring is grey to bluish-black, covered with lots of cream-coloured spots. Yellow and black bands are visible under the chin and neck.
Taken in south-east Queensland, Australia.
