Description
Male Superb Fairy-wren watching over his chick. The chick looks like a little fluff ball. Father is in his magnificent breeding plumage, characterized by the striking blue forehead, ear coverts, mantle and tail as well as the black throat, eye band, breast and bill. Particularly the ear coverts and forehead have iridescent properties that make this little fellow stand out even more! When not breeding they moult into a plain brown colour. Fairy-wrens are very popular birds in Australia and live in the underrgrowth of wooded areas. They never sit still so are challenging to photograph! Taken in South East Queensland, Australia.
