Description
A view on Magnetic Island, a tropical paradise situated 8km off Townsville in northern Queensland. More than half of the island consists of National Park. There’s also a population of around 2,500 people and various holiday accomodations are available. It is easy to go there on a day trip, it’s only a 20 minute ride on the Ferry.
The island is mountainous with rocky granite headlands. Hoop pines are abundant as are Eucalypt woodlands. There are many secluded beaches and the island is surrounded by mangroves and coral reefs. Koalas, Rock Wallabies and lots of birds can be seen on Magnetic Island. The Aboriginal Traditional Owners, the Wulgurukaba, call the island by its original name: Yunbenun..
