Description
The Olive-backed Sunbird is a delightful sight in coastal Queensland, north of Gladstone. This small bird can be spotted in rainforest margins, mangroves, riverine vegetation, parks and gardens. It is recognized by it’s bright yellow underparts and eyebrow, while the head, back and tail are mainly olive-green to brown. The male, as can be seen in this photo, is distinguished by the beautiful blue-purple iridescent throat and breast. The long, curved bill allows the bird to take nectar from the flowers but they will also eat insects. Taken in tropical north Queensland, Australia.
