Description
Ready to Strike. This juvenile Eastern Brown Snake may look harmless as it's so tiny, only about 15cm long and very thin, but it is actually very dangerous! Brown Snakes are the world's second most venomous snake and responsible for 60% of snake-bite deaths in Australia! Its venom is highly neurotoxic and even a little one like this is capable of killing a human! When you think you may have been bitten you need to seek very urgent medical attention. These snakes are also renowned for being lightning fast!
The good news is that their fangs are quite short so wearing protective clothing when out in the bush really is an advantage and thus a must!
Of course, when taking this photo I kept a respectable distance, was grateful for my zoom lens, and kept a close eye on what the snake was doing.
