Silvereye on Bottle Brush II - Merry Christmas with Aussie Natives Series
Lovely red and green colours in the Christmas theme with red Bottle Brush flowering at Christmas time, and the green leaves and green feathers of the bird.
Silvereyes are small birds in the group of white-eyes. They have a grey back, an olive-green head and wings and a prominent ring of white feathers around their eyes. Silvereyes can be found in eastern and southern Australia in any type of woodland. They feed on insects, fruit and nectar. Bottle Brush or Callistemon is well known for its bottle-brush shaped spiked flowers. These crimson-red beauties are from the Weeping Bottle Brush, a tree that grows up to 10m tall. It is native to Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia. It flowers mainly in spring and summer but potentially also at other times during the year. The flowers consist of a collection of red stamen. They produce lots of nectar which is popular with birds and insects.
Taken in south east Queensland, Australia.
