Description
Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo.
The Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo is the largest of the Cacatuidae, reaching up to 70cm! Mainly black in colour, they have yellow tail panels, a yellow cheek patch and yellow edges to most feathers (although the latter is barely visible). They fly in small flocks and have a majestic and a bit prehistoric appearance in flight with their slow wing-beats and their high pitched wailing call can be heard from afar. Their favourite food consists of grubs and seeds - from native trees as well as from pine cones. Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos can be found in Eucalypt woodland and Pine plantations across south-eastern Australia. Taken in south-east Queensland, Australia.
