Artist's Description
Comb-crested Jacana and Water Snowflakes. Comb-crested Jacana walking on floating Water Snowflakes which are a type of water lilies. The flowers indeed give the image an effect as if it is snowing!.
This water bird is also known as the Lotusbird. Its upper parts are black while its under parts are white. It has a prominent red fleshy comb on its forehead. Around the eye and throat is a rusty orange colour detectable. They are most common in northern parts of Australia, but do range as far south as Grafton, NSW. With their large feet they navigate floating vegetation like these water lilies in search of food. Aquatic insects, seeds and plants are on the menu. Taken in south-east Queensland, Australia.
