Australian Wood Duck Female watching over her preening ducklings as if making sure they’re doing it right, while two other ducklings are sitting around lazily. The whole scene unfolds on the edge of the water; they are all ready to get in at anytime there is a threat. The brown colour of the water and the dry leaves on the edge match the brown feathers of the Ducks’ heads, while the lighter coloured feathers on the body leave them well camouflaged on the ground.
Australian Wood Ducks are quite common anywhere near water throughout large parts of Australia. The erect posture of the Duck makes it a bit Goose-like. They feed mainly on grasses and are rarely seen on open water. Taken in south-east Queensland, Australia.
