Abundant flowering of the Maiden’s Wattle, looking beautiful in the winter sun. Maiden’s Wattle is a fast-growing, hardy Acacia tree that grows up to 20m tall. It is native to coastal and sub-coastal Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. It flowers during the period from January to June and produces flowers that have pale yellow or cream-coloured spikes, up to 6cm long. They grow in clusters of 2 or 3. The leaves are actually phyllodes (leaf stems) and are dark green, up to 18cm long and 2.2cm wide, and have longitudinal veins. The seed pods can be used as a ‘bush soap’, they contain saponins which form a froth when they come into contact with water. Taken in south-east Queensland, Australia.
