Three Double-barred Finches perched. It looks like the one in front is the leader and counting down ready, set, go! They look very ready to take off in flight. These little birds are easy to scare. They belong to the grass-finches and flock in groups of up to 40 birds and feed on seeds on the ground. They can also take insects, especially when breeding. Their name refers to the 2 narrow black bars across their chest that contrast with their white chest. The top bar goes all around their face which resembles the mask of a Barn Owl! Further the bird is grey-brown and has black wings, speckled with white dots. You can find them across northern and eastern Australia, around into Victoria. This image was taken in south-east Queensland.
