Artist's Description
Red dirt landscape with Spinifex Grass and small outback trees in Lark Quarry Conservation Park, Queensland, Australia. A fantastic display of Australia’s famous red soil in this dramatic Jump-up country. Jump-up country stands for a landscape of mesas (isolated flat-topped elevations), gullies and steep escarpments. It is created by the seasonal flow of flood waters, but most of the year it is very dry here. Spinifex Grasses (Triodia) are native to inland Australia and are a tussock grass or bunch grass, growing in clumps. Spinifex grows in arid areas, it is abundant in this place. The dominant trees are Lancewood and Normanton Box; Snappy Gum can also be found here.
To get to the Lark Quarry Conservation Park, you travel 110km from Winton on a partly sealed road. The park is known for the Dinosaur Stampede National Monument, a fascinating attraction! Most people don’t look further but the natural environment in the park is also quite stunning, it’s well worth doing a walk!<...
