Description
Pandanus with Fruit
Part of a Pandanus Tree, also known as Screw Pine or Screw Palm, bearing fruit. This small tree has long leaves that grow out of the branches in a circular arrangement, like a screw - hence the common name. The tree grows in coastal habitat in eastern Australia and is a common sight on beaches and other coastal flatlands. They are anchored strongly in the sandy soils with aerial prop roots, that make them also very efficient in preventing coastal erosion. Taken in South East Queensland, Australia.
