Description
The Black-faced Monarch is an arboreal flycatcher and has a rufous belly and grey wings and tail. Its face is black and the dark eye has a black ring around it. It lives in rainforests and wet sclerophyll forests in coastal eastern Australia and tends to migrate north in winter and back south to breed In spring. They can catch insects in flight or pick them up from the foliage. The pretty colouring and distinctive call (‘why-you-which-yew’) make it stand out in the dark damp forests.
Taken in south-east Queensland, Australia.
