Description
Burton's Snake Lizard
Easily mistaken for a snake is this legless lizard. I certainly stopped in my tracks when I saw it, initially convinced it was a snake! However, upon closer inspection (through my zoom lens of course), I noticed the pointy snout which is typical of this lizard and not in snakes. Also, it's movement pattern is different to that of a snake. It doesn't slither fluently, but rather shoves itself forward with intermittent movements. The Burton's Snake Lizard is around 30cm long, light brown in colour (colour variations exist) and not dangerous. They can be seen in large parts of Australia in a preferred habitat of bushland and gardens.
