Description
Four Great Cormorants sitting on a Tree. The effect of the silhouettes of the Great Cormorants all in different poses on the wavy branch makes for an interesting image.
Great Cormorants are a large black Cormorant with a white cheek, a yellow beak and blue-green eyes. The bill is grey and the legs and feet are black.
These birds can be spotted in large parts of Australia, anywhere near water. They feed by diving for fish from the sea as well as estuaries, fresh water lakes and rivers. They prefer the fresh water environment however, and will also take crustaceans, frogs and insects on their dives.
Other subspecies of the Great Cormorant can be found in other continents throughout the world.
Taken in south east Queensland, Australia.
