Description
Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo Female Feeding.
Female Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo feeding on the fruit of the Beach Almond Tree. The Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo is a large glossy cockatoo. It has a large crest. Females are black with yellow spots and have orange-yellow panels in their tail.
They feed mainly on seeds but will also eat fruit, berries, nectar, flowers and sometimes insects and larvae and prefer a woodland habitat. They are an active species and can be seen in pairs, small groups up to large flocks. They are mainly arboreal and generally do not accept observers in close proximity. They take off screeching loudly when disturbed.
